James L. D'Andrea

JAMES L. D'ANDREA is a Board-Certified Civil Trial Lawyer.  As a Partner and Shareholder in the firm, he devotes his practice to civil litigation, specializing in transportation defense and risk management in the railroad, maritime, crew transport and trucking industries. He takes cases to trial in state and federal courts, and has briefed and argued appeals in state, federal and administrative forums. 

Mr. D’Andrea graduated from Miami University in Oxford Ohio with a Bachelor’s of Philosophy (Interdisciplinary Studies) in 1982, then worked as a journalist and public relations executive before attending the University of Florida College of Law. He graduated in 1991, was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1992 and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Middle, Northern and Southern Districts of Florida and for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. 

Jim holds an "AV" Peer Review rating (the highest rating possible) from Martindale-Hubbell, the attorney rating system for recognition of legal skills and professional ethics. In 2009 he was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a national organization of plaintiff and defense attorneys dedicated to the preservation of the right to trial by jury guaranteed under the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He was awarded the Jacksonville ABOTA Chapter’s Professionalism and Civility Award in 2014 and currently serves on its Executive Committee. 

Mr. D’Andrea has lectured to trial and claims organizations around the state and country. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, and has served as its Southeastern Regional Vice President. He also serves as a certified arbitrator/mediator of fee disputes in the Florida Bar Grievance Mediation and Fee Arbitration Program, and has chaired the Fourth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee. 

Jim is a proctor in admiralty of the Maritime Law Association and a member of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute. He previously served as an officer of the Jacksonville Catholic Lawyers Guild and for years chaired the Morningstar School Board of Directors. 

Jim and his wife Kate have three children and live in Jacksonville, where Kate works as general counsel at Mayport Naval Station.  Jim sings in the choir of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he serves as a cantor.
